The best part of Central Ontario…well, it’s precisely that…it’s central! An outdoor playground that is easily accessible from the city, the region is probably best known as ‘cottage country’. Indeed, from the Muskokas to the Haliburton Highlands to the Kawarthas, the area is bursting with lakes and rivers. The population in Central Ontario swells considerably during the summer months, but don’t let the crowds dissuade you. The influx of summertime residents and visitors has some perks including a broad selection of activities, festivals, events and attractions to choose from.

What draws most people to Central Ontario? It’s likely to be the rolling hills and freshwater lakes. But aside from lakeshore living and water sports, there is a plethora of hiking trails, canoe routes, backcountry camping and provincial parks to explore (including Algonquin Provincial Park). While it tends to be a little quieter in the winter months, Central Ontario boasts some of the best and most challenging cross country ski areas in the province. The area is also well known for dogsledding adventures, snowshoeing and downhill skiing.

Feeling a little lost? You don’t have to own a cottage to enjoy the lakeside. All across Central Ontario there are numerous accommodations, including resorts, lodges and inns, which will have your feet dangling off a dock in no time.
