Don’t be fooled, whitewater river rafting involves way more than just sitting in a raft. This intense rapid rushing sport can put you in the water fast. Despite appearances, not all rafting adventures mean you have to be a daredevil. Depending on the grade of water and the type of rafting trip, Ontario has a range of white water vacations ranging from fun-filled family adventures to extreme death defying sport.

No matter what you will get splashed, paddle hard and possibly find yourself swimming. Other than a bathing suit, a thirst for adventure and shoes that stay on your feet, most of what you need will be provided by the rafting company. Ontario has first-class rafting guides who will reward you for all the heart racing and hard work by making you feel like you are really part of the river. White water rafting in Ontario runs from May to October and the intensity will depend on the type of adventure you choose. A paddle trip will involve way more paddling; while a float trip will be all about holding on while your guides take you for a ride.

Ontario’s rivers, including the Ottawa, Madawaska and Grand, are perfect for every range of rafting adventure from a couple of hours to an entire day. You can even try several days including river camping or an overnight getaway. Anyone can go rafting and because it is all about teamwork it makes a great activity for a group vacation. You can start with an easy half or full-day or stretch it out to learn more over several days. Be forewarned, longer trips will require a good dose of energy and you are guaranteed to be tired.
